Parrot Feeding

Different species of parrots require different care but, for all parrots, proper nutrition is vital in maintaining a good quality of life. Most parrot diets are very similar.

Diet should be varied, with a medium hook bill seed mix, medium-sized pellet, fresh vegetables, occasional fruit, and some grains. Macaws like to chew wood, so be sure to include some nice toys for them to exercise their beaks. Diets generally fed to psittacine baby Parrot should be fairly low in fat content with a proper balance of protein.

Parrots Need Variety
Parrots need variety not just because it is healthier nutritionally but because they get bored with repetition and need to be stimulated both visually and with a variety of textures.

Seeds are not bad for them but do not cover all their dietary needs. It would be like we ate pizza all the time. Seeds are a great treat, but they have few nutrients and high fat content. Therefore, always limit your parrot’s seed intake. Seeds are naturally-stored packages of live energy and there are prime reasons why so many parrots and parakeets have strong, durable hooked bills. Occasionally, they will eat flowers and stems as well which adds to the variety and colour of their diet.

African Grey Parrots
