Yellow Parrot

Yellow Parrots are the most popular of pet Parrots. The Yellow Headed Amazon Parrot is very good at talking and imitating sounds, talents rivaled only by the African Grey Parrot. There had been much debate whether parrots actually were communicating or simply mimicking their owners. Yellow parrots are also great mimickers of human voices and can be considered the opposite of shy. This is why most parrots used on movie sets and seen pictured in cartoons are Yellow Parrots.

Yellow Parrot Diet
Yellow Parrots require a diet with a lot of fresh natural foods. Root vegetables such as carrots, beets, and sweet potatoes are important additions to the diet. Their diet should consist of good quality parrot seed mixed with vegetables and fruits.

Yellow Headed Amazon Parrots love food and have a tendency to become overweight. They often eat out of boredom, necessitating the need for several toys and cage activities.

Yellow Headed Amazon Parrots must have a great deal of specialized attention. It is not a good pet for someone that cannot devote his or her entire life to him or her. They are one more challenging pets to have because they want lots of attention. People experienced with handling parrots will have no trouble with this magnificent bird.

Yellow Parrots a Brilliant Bird
Yellow Headed Amazon Parrots, together with Macaws, and the African Grey Parrot are all known for their exceptional vocal abilities, playfulness, and dexterity with their feet. Hand reared parrots are very loyal loving companions, and they can live for 50 years or more in captivity.

Yellow markings can be seen at the crown, lores (the regions between the eyes and bill on the side of a bird’s head), and thighs, and can occasionally be seen in the areas around the eyes. Yellow on forehead; far less yellow than the Double Yellow-head parrot.

Yellow Parrot Cages
Yellow Headed Amazon Parrots require a large sturdy cage with suitable bar spacing and plenty of toys to play with. If these birds are to be housed side by side solid partitions should be installed. They like their space.

Nest boxes should be appropriate size and construction for the species. Nest materials should be dry, of adequate quality and depth, and clean.

Yellow Headed Amazon Parrots enjoy chewing wood and should have wooden toys or prepared wood for chewing (only give toys that are designed for parrots). They also love green branches with leaves, but always wash them and check the suitability for your parrot. Your Yellow Headed Amazon loves attention, will actively seek it. When you can’t give them attention make sure they have plenty of things to keep them distracted and entertained.
